On Friday March 23rd, St. Mary celebrated Earth Hour. Our students made sure that NO LIGHTS & NO TECHNOLOGY was turned on for the entire day. We also wrote about how we can protect planet earth and made a recycled art visual. Lastly, we discovered that it takes approximated 450 trees to run the lights for our entire school year!!!
Students have been learning to be critical when it comes to media literacy. Media literacy explores the impact and influence of mass media and popular culture by examining texts such as films, songs, video games, action figures, advertisements, CD covers, clothing, billboards, television shows, magazines, newspapers, photographs, and websites. Understanding how media texts are constructed and why they are produced enables students to respond to them intelligently and responsibly. The grade 1 students have created "original" cereal boxes and some even commercial in hopes of "selling" their product to others. Have a look at these new cereals which are soon to be available at your local grocery stores!!!
The following are videos which can help your child with important rules when it comes to reading. These are videos that they are familiar with but should continue to be used to reinforce concepts learned. We were so fortunate to have an exciting winter play day on Friday March 2, 2018. The students LOVED the various games they got to play, not to mention the cookie and hot chocolate! Thank you to all parent volunteers who made this event possible. Your time and dedication to our school is much appreciated.
Many students continue to struggle with "b & d" letter reversals in their writing. The following strategies can be used at home to help rectify this common issue. Please note that these strategies will also be used at school.
